The Lord is Holy
Blood of Christ - Intro
Return to Salvation

In his great sermon on this subject, Dr. W. A. Criswell said, "This is the scarlet thread of redemption that began with the blood of covering in the Garden of Eden and finds its ultimate and final consummation in the blood-washed throng before the throne of God in glory"

God divinely provided garments, through the shedding of the blood of innocent animals, so that the first sinners might be made fit for God's presence.  This depicted the sacrifice of the coming Redeemer.

And Jehovah God made coats of skin for the man and his wife, and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21 LITV)

And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the Word of their testimony. And they did not love their soul even until death. (Revelation 12:11 LITV)

The above verse from Revelation is the last reference in the Bible to the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ; here it is the overcoming blood, enabling believers to withstand the deceptions and accusations of Satan.

The blood of Jesus is everything.  It is the central doctrine of our faith, the present and eternal life of our souls.  There is no pardon, no salvation, no heaven but by blood - the blood of the Lord Jesus.

Before you proceed with this study, read God’s warning to those who deny the validity of the atoning blood of Jesus.

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:26-31 KJV)

The person who rejects salvation by the blood of Jesus is guilty of a threefold sin (v. 29):

  1. He has “trampled the Son of God underfoot”;
  2. He has “counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing”;
  3. He has “insulted the Spirit of grace”.

This threefold sin is committed by many church members who profess to know Christ as personal Savior, but deny salvation by the precious blood of Jesus.  Jesus warned them in His Sermon on the Mount,

Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of Heaven, but the ones who do the will of My Father in Heaven. (Matthew 7:21 LITV)

In that day they will point to their church membership, baptism, self-righteous life, and all manner of religious works; but Jesus will declare to them "depart from Me, those working lawlessness!" (Matthew 7:23)

Thank God He will never say this to those who, by faith, have “washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Rev. 7:14).
